adidas has secured a four-year agreement with the DFL to supply the official matchballs for both the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. This partnership signifies adidas’ return to the Bundesliga, where the brand last provided the matchballs during the 2018/19 season.
Starting in the 2026/27 season, adidas will take over as the official matchball provider for both Bundesliga divisions. The collaboration, which will last for four years until the end of the 2029/30 season, will cover all matches in Germany’s top two leagues, as well as the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup and the relegation play-offs. For adidas, this marks a significant return, having previously supplied matchballs for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 from the 2010/11 to 2018/19 seasons.
Steffen Merkel, CEO of the DFL, stated: “The choice of the official matchball is particularly important for the Bundesliga, as it is the highest-scoring top league in Europe. adidas presented a very strong proposal, which was accepted by the DFL and all 36 clubs in every aspect. We are excited about this return and the stability that this cooperation brings. adidas is a brand with deep roots in Germany and significant global reach. Together, we will leverage this from the 2026/27 season onwards.”
Marina Moguš, Managing Director for Central Europe at adidas, expressed excitement about the partnership: “We are thrilled to announce our new collaboration with the DFL. This agreement further strengthens our presence in the domestic market. After all these years, it was important for us to once again provide the official matchball for the German Bundesliga. We can’t wait to start this new chapter together with the DFL in the 2026/27 season.”
Until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, teams will continue to play with DERBYSTAR balls. Merkel also thanked the current partner, stating: “As we approach the transition, we would like to express our deep gratitude to DERBYSTAR for the excellent and trustworthy cooperation throughout our partnership.”
