Actor Kritika Kamra has expanded her clothing brand, Cinnabar, by hiring 50 female artisans from Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, renowned for its handwoven sarees.
As part of a Women’s Day initiative, this move aims to empower local women by offering them financial independence and better opportunities.
Kamra launched Cinnabar as a passion project in 2020, and it has since grown to employ 200 artisans. She remains committed to uplifting women in her home state through sustainable employment.
“When we started Cinnabar, it was a passion project, but our broader goal was always to employ women from Madhya Pradesh, particularly from this region, to help empower them,” Kamra told Mid-Day.
Her initiative goes beyond providing jobs—it is about transforming lives.
“We aim to create employment, raise awareness about their craft, and ensure they receive fair prices, giving these women agency, confidence, and the means to improve their lifestyle,” she added.
To oversee the hiring process and ensure her vision is realized, Kamra personally traveled to Chanderi, reinforcing her commitment to women’s empowerment.
