Australian fashion often faces criticism, but Daniel Ricciardo believes this perception is unfair. The former Formula One driver, who has traveled the world and owns a fashion and lifestyle brand, insists that Australians have a strong sense of style. He particularly notices this when returning home.
Ricciardo’s brand, Enchanté, initially started as a fashion line within his merchandise brand Ric3. In January 2023, he expanded it into a standalone label. He attributes the brand’s name to his time in Monaco, where a friend frequently used the French word “enchanté” in a playful manner. This inspired Ricciardo to incorporate the phrase into his brand, which reflects a mix of cheekiness, fun, and sophistication.
Enchanté’s collections embody these qualities, featuring vibrant track shorts, oversized sweats, and motocross-inspired tees with bold 1980s graphics. The brand has hosted four pop-up stores across major cities, including New York and Austin. For its fifth edition, Ricciardo is bringing the event to Melbourne’s Chapel Street, coinciding with the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix. The collection for this pop-up is deeply rooted in his Australian heritage, drawing inspiration from the surf and skate shops of his youth. Ricciardo has incorporated a signature Australian summer color palette, fun typography, and nostalgic graphics. Among the pieces, he particularly favors a navy nylon anorak for its simple yet stylish design.
Ricciardo frequently wears Enchanté himself, often opting for hoodies, jumpers, and T-shirts from his brand. He describes his style as generally casual and admits to favoring shorter shorts to highlight his legs. His fashion choices also adapt to different locations; for example, he gravitates towards boots when visiting Texas. However, he tends to avoid formalwear, preferring knits and dress shirts for dressier occasions. He also dislikes low-cut round-neck T-shirts, V-necks, and long shorts, even as they attempt a comeback.
The Melbourne pop-up will not feature long shorts, as Ricciardo remains firm on his design preferences. Initially, he struggled with deciding what to include in his collections, recognizing that personal taste varies among customers. Over time, he has gained confidence and a clearer vision for Enchanté while still refining the brand’s designs.
Since stepping away from full-time racing, Ricciardo appreciates the newfound flexibility in his schedule. Unlike the rigid, minute-by-minute structure of his racing career, he now enjoys simple pleasures like taking a morning walk for coffee. He acknowledges that his style might evolve with age, playfully considering whether to transition from baggy XL T-shirts to a more fitted look as he approaches 36. However, his signature casual aesthetic remains an essential part of his identity.
