Milan Fashion Week has ended, unveiling the key trends for staying elegant and stylish next winter.
This season continued the theme of quiet luxury, with high-quality materials paired with everyday essentials.
A Season Dominated by Grey
Many fashion studios seemed inspired by the grey suits from the 1980 film American Gigolo. Notably, Giorgio Armani—who originally designed Richard Gere’s iconic outfits for the film—demonstrated his expertise in the color as he closed the event on Sunday.
Armani’s signature “greige,” a sophisticated blend of grey and beige, appeared prominently in silk jacquard, cashmere, and organza. His collection featured flowing jacket-and-trouser sets, trouser jumpsuits, and intricate embroidery on ethereal dresses.
Grey was also a central theme for Antonio Marras, showcased in Prince of Wales suits, tartan, and tennis stripes, tailored for both men and women. Ferragamo embraced the trend with oversized double-buttoned coats layered over flowing silk dresses.
Gucci followed suit with classic women’s ensembles, including fitted jackets and knee-length skirts, as well as a full-length tunic adorned with the signature double GG logo. Meanwhile, Max Mara’s collection focused on flecked grey cardigans and thick wool dresses, and MM6 Maison Margiela incorporated greenish-grey hues in Matrix-inspired trench coats.
The Belt Trend Takes Over
Belts emerged as a standout accessory for the upcoming season.
Max Mara featured them across coats, cardigans, wool dresses, and various skirt lengths. Emporio Armani incorporated Japanese Obi belts and velour belts with geometric buckles, while Gucci introduced metallic belts featuring its signature horsebit design.
At Prada, thin belts created unexpected volume on oversized coats, whereas Tod’s and Ferragamo opted for a more practical approach. Tod’s belts included small pockets and accessories, while Ferragamo used them to complement oversized bags.
Moschino, known for its playful take on fashion, reimagined belts as structural elements, blending crinoline-inspired designs with BDSM aesthetics.
Leather Trench Coats for Winter
The leather trench coat is poised to be a must-have outerwear piece next season.
Roberto Cavalli made a bold statement with a structured, all-black belted leather trench. Tod’s presented a softer take with wrap-around leather trenches in vibrant red, caramel, and chocolate shades.
Fendi introduced a retro-style cognac leather trench with a shirt collar, while Gucci showcased a variety of styles—some stripped-down and unbelted, others adorned with animal prints in aged beige leather.
Dolce & Gabbana added an edgy twist by pairing a voluminous leather coat with a silk nightdress and mustard-yellow biker boots, aligning with their “Cool Girls” collection.
Matelassé: The Textured Trend
Matelassé quilting was another prominent theme across multiple collections, appearing on coats, jackets, and even skirts.
Fendi, celebrating its 100th anniversary, impressed with a matelassé flared skirt and a meticulously detailed golden ochre blouse, blending elegance with comfort.
Emporio Armani incorporated the trend into short matelassé jackets with herringbone patterns, accentuated by velour details. Max Mara’s interpretation included a floor-length belted matelassé coat, while Dolce & Gabbana infused their large coats with leopard-print matelassé elements, aligning with the season’s streetwear-chic aesthetic.
Moschino took a humorous approach by transforming large padded quilts into outerwear and replacing traditional hats with pillows, staying true to the brand’s playful spirit.
Milan Fashion Week may have ended, but its influence on winter fashion is just beginning. Expect to see plenty of grey, statement belts, luxurious leather trenches, and quilted textures dominating wardrobes in the coming months.
