Sara Cavazza Facchini’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection for Genny opened with a striking visual metaphor: four life-size heart-topped tassels anchoring the runway, a nod to both the season’s decorative motif and the brand’s storied archives. The show marked Cavazza Facchini’s first overt nod to Genny’s 60-year history, founded in 1962 by Arnaldo and Donatella Girombelli and once led by Gianni Versace in the early 1990s.
Backstage, the designer reflected on her reinterpretation of heritage: “Beautiful things are timeless by definition.” The tassel, a Versace-era flourish from 1993, reappeared as a print on fluid separates, intarsia-knit into fuzzy sweaters, and appliquéd as dimensional accents. Yet the collection transcended mere nostalgia, blending archival references with Cavazza Facchini’s signature maximalism—albeit reined in for a more cohesive look.
Key pieces included miniskirts with petal-like ruffles paired with crewneck sweaters trailing tassel trim; bias-cut tops layered over wide-leg trousers; and mod-inspired tweed suits with boxy silhouettes. A standout was a furry coat in muted tones, its casual texture offering a modern twist on luxury. While the lineup retained Cavazza Facchini’s penchant for drama—fiery red strapless gowns with ruching and cutout dresses—these felt derivative compared to the fresh archival reimaginations.
Critics praised the collection’s balance of heritage and modernity, noting the shortened hemlines and restrained flourishes as particularly successful. However, some questioned whether the overt references to Versace’s era risked overshadowing Genny’s unique identity.
For Cavazza Facchini, the exercise was about evolution: “Honoring the past isn’t about recontextualizing.” As Genny continues its journey under her leadership, the Fall/Winter 2025 offering signals a promising step toward harmonizing history with contemporary relevance.
