The latest collection by Dries Van Noten draws inspiration from the Opéra Garnier, with elements of the iconic venue reflected throughout. Beads and sequins mimic stage costumes, while velvet, jacquard, tassels, and fringe pay homage to the carpets and curtains of the opera house. Prints resembling tie patterns, essential for formal wear, are also incorporated, and stirrup pants evoke the elegance of dancers. The headscarf, reminiscent of those worn to keep hair in place during makeup application, adds a touch of practical yet stylish detail.
Julian Klossner, the brand’s creative director, seems to have made a conscious effort. To create a functional “wardrobe,” he has subdued elements of “freedom” and “fantasy” that were perhaps more prominent in previous collections. This approach, however, has been well – received, as it shows respect for the brand’s signature style.
The audience has witnessed Klossner’s ability to maintain the brand’s spirit while building a relationship of trust with Van Noten. Now that Klossner has demonstrated a deep understanding of the brand, the fashion world eagerly anticipates what new elements of “freedom” and “fantasy” he will introduce in future Dries Van Noten collections, further shaping the brand’s evolution.
