London Fashion Week (LFW) kicked off with a stunning tribute to gender-fluid fashion by designer Harris Reed, whose collection highlighted non-binary romanticism. Known for his bold and theatrical designs, Reed’s show took place at the Tate Britain gallery. At 28 years old, Reed has already made a name for himself, having dressed Harry Styles and styled Lily Collins for Emily in Paris. He is one of the standout designers on the autumn-winter 2025 LFW lineup, according to AFP.
While some major brands, including JW Anderson, are absent this season, LFW still features a strong roster of designers, including Erdem, Simone Rocha, and Burberry. Speculation surrounds potential changes at the helm of Burberry, adding intrigue to the event. Additionally, LFW is stepping up its commitment to sustainability, with new standards for emerging designers and a continued focus on environmental responsibility, including a ban on the use of wild animal skins.
This year’s London Fashion Week is shorter and has a reduced schedule, with many brands opting for alternative presentations. This shift comes in response to challenges facing the UK fashion industry, including the impact of Brexit and the ongoing effects of the pandemic. Caroline Rush, the director of the British Fashion Council (BFC), who is retiring after 16 years, emphasized the crucial role LFW plays in supporting independent designers.
The UK fashion industry remains a key contributor to the national economy, employing 800,000 people and generating nearly £30 billion.
