NBA Players Create Secret Fashion Lines, Blending Style and Sports

by Demos

The NBA’s connection to the fashion industry has never been stronger. The pre-game tunnel walks have become a significant part of coverage, with millions of fans eager to see what their favorite players are wearing. As a result, more NBA stars are launching their own clothing lines. However, what’s surprising is how many fashion brands are flying under the radar.

Russell Westbrook, a longtime fashion icon in the NBA, is widely known for his clothing line, Honor The Gift. Similarly, James Harden is recognized for his love of high fashion and the evolution of his clothing brand, which stems from his shoe deal with Adidas. These collaborations follow the usual trend for athletes with shoe deals, where a clothing line often pairs with the established sportswear brand. Steph Curry, for example, has his own line with Under Armour.

But some players are taking a different approach, launching high-end clothing lines independent of any sportswear or shoe partnerships. While these deals aren’t exactly secret, they are not heavily promoted either. Some players prefer to let their clothes speak for themselves, creating buzz through word of mouth rather than heavy advertising.

One example is Kyrie Irving. After losing his Nike deal, his collaboration with Chinese brand ANTA for his KAI line of shoes became well known. But what many don’t know is that Irving also has a fashion line called HER KAI & I, created with his sister Asia Irving. The brand’s website highlights their sibling bond and its inspiration behind their collective approach to fashion.

Kyle Kuzma is another player making waves with his fashion brand, Childhood Dreams. Known for his bold fashion choices, like the infamous giant pink sweater, Kuzma has been steadily building his fashion and lifestyle brand. He frequently collaborates with his Puma shoe partner on new apparel and even opened a restaurant, Childhood Cafe, in the DC area.

LaMelo Ball, the youngest and most prominent star in the Ball family, has moved past the controversies surrounding his father’s Big Baller Brand to establish LaFrancé, a lifestyle clothing brand. This line occasionally collaborates with Puma and reflects his distinct style.

Another rising star, Jordan Clarkson, has partnered with Lululemon to create his own collection. His collaboration with the trendy brand blends athleticism and artistry, with a focus on training apparel that blurs the lines between sport and style.

The NBA has always been a trailblazer, from the Showtime Lakers to the current era, which continues to elevate the fashion world. As players like Westbrook, Kuzma, Irving, and others carve out their own fashion identities, it seems the NBA has entered a “runway” era, merging basketball with high fashion.
