Over 20 nude drawings by the late French fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent are set to be auctioned in Paris this month, Sotheby’s has announced.
The auction will also feature additional artwork collected by Saint Laurent, who passed away in 2008, and his partner Pierre Berge, who died in 2017.
Titled “Yves Saint Laurent – Pierre Berge: An Intimate Collection,” the sale will take place from January 21 to January 30, coinciding with the Paris men’s fashion week.
According to Sotheby’s, the drawings “combine precise anatomical details and lascivious poetry, allowing us to explore the inner world of Yves Saint Laurent.”
“This is the first time such a collection has been presented at auction,” said Florent Jeanniard, Vice President of Sotheby’s France.
All the pieces have been authenticated by the Yves Saint Laurent Authentication Committee, which was established to oversee his personal art collection, Jeanniard confirmed to AFP.
In addition to the drawings, the sale will include works collected by Saint Laurent and Berge, along with photographs by renowned artists including Andy Warhol, Helmut Newton, Alice Springs, and Martine Barrat.
Among the featured items are several Polaroid portraits by Warhol, including one of Pierre Berge. All of the works will be displayed at Sotheby’s Paris office throughout the online auction.
