Electric vehicle manufacturer Nio has been named the official mobility partner for Berlin Fashion Week, which will take place from January 31 to February 3, the company announced Thursday.
Nio will provide a fleet of 20 shuttle vehicles on the opening day and 25 vehicles for the remaining days, transporting VIPs between various show venues across the German capital. This collaboration aligns with the company’s strategy to boost brand visibility in the German market. Berlin Fashion Week will feature 31 shows in total.
“Berlin is a vibrant, multicultural city that serves as a hub for modern trends and lifestyles. This dynamic energy is mirrored in both Berlin Fashion Week and Nio’s presence here, which is why we are excited to partner with the event,” said Christian Wiegand, Nio’s Head of User Development and Deputy General Manager. “As a partner, we aim to provide more than just mobility; we also hope to create a space for dialogue and innovation.”
In December, Nio registered 31 vehicles in Germany, bringing its total for the year to 398 units, according to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. This marked a significant drop of 68% compared to the previous year, following Germany’s sudden termination of its EV subsidy program in late 2023.
During Berlin Fashion Week, Nio will also host the “METAMORPHOSIS – Dialogues About Change” series at its Nio House showroom in Berlin. This series, organized by the Fashion Council Germany and supported by eBay, will delve into topics like sustainability, digital transformation, and diversity. Industry experts from the circular economy and fashion sectors will offer insights on the future of the industry.
“Our Nio House Berlin is the perfect venue for the METAMORPHOSIS talk series, providing inspiration and fostering conversation. This collaboration reflects our shared values,” Wiegand added.
Nio, based in Shanghai, entered the German market in October 2022 but saw a dramatic decline in sales, with a 68.5% drop from 1,263 units in the previous year, following the abrupt end of Germany’s EV subsidy program at the close of 2023.
