It seems that fans may have misinterpreted the situation, or perhaps Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek have resolved any tension after their widely publicized confrontation at Paris Fashion Week. The two actresses appeared to share a friendly and warm moment on the red carpet at the 82nd Golden Globes this week, just months after their heated exchange in Paris.
Kidman, nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor for her role in the erotic thriller Babygirl, stunned in a silver, backless, rhinestone-adorned gown from Balenciaga’s 52nd couture collection. Hayek, meanwhile, wore a striking maroon bodycon gown with a dramatic sequined train, also from the fashion house. In a video making the rounds on social media, photographers captured their first public meeting since the Paris Fashion Week incident.
As Kidman noticed Hayek, she appeared genuinely surprised. The two actresses were later seen holding hands and smiling as they greeted the media during the event. While they walked the red carpet, Kidman seemed to say something to Hayek, though it wasn’t clear what was said. Fans online offered mixed reactions, with one Twitter user writing, “You know damn well Nicole was scared of Salma after the Paris incident went viral. There’s fear in her eyes, don’t f*ck with Salma.”
Back in September, the actresses had a very different interaction at the Balenciaga show. Hayek, who is married to François-Henri Pinault, CEO of Kering (the parent company of Balenciaga), appeared to redirect Kidman to face the photographers. Hayek’s attempt to guide Kidman resulted in Kidman seemingly pushing her hand away and saying, “Don’t touch me.”
The incident sparked rumors online, with some speculating that Kidman’s Balenciaga contract could be at risk. However, after the video went viral, insiders quickly downplayed the situation. One source told People, “They were being bombarded by cameras at the end of the show while in the middle of a conversation. People are looking at clips and making a story out of nothing.” Another source added, “This whole situation is silly. Salma and Nicole love and respect each other.”
Despite the public display of affection and camaraderie at the Golden Globes, not everyone is convinced that all is forgiven. Some critics believe that the two actresses were simply playing nice for the cameras, with one commenter stating, “They know what the optics were and played nice. They are actors after all.” Another agreed, writing, “Nicole Kidman knows how to handle the press. Well played.”
Critics also pointed out that Kidman’s behavior might not have been entirely well-received, with some speculating that her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, who shares two children with Kidman, could have been disappointed with her diva-like actions. After 11 years of marriage, the two divorced in 2001.
Kidman later married country music star Keith Urban in 2006, with whom she shares two daughters.
