Actress Sreeya Remesh has strongly criticized social activist Rahul Easwar for his anti-women remarks related to the controversy surrounding Honey Rose. Sreeya questioned whether it was Rahul Easwar’s place to decide how women, including Honey, should shape their physique and what kind of attire they should wear. This criticism came after Rahul Easwar made comments regarding the public backlash against Honey Rose’s clothing choices.
Sreeya Remesh expressed her concerns, stating, “From ancient scriptures to various poems and sculptures, the curves of the female body have been celebrated extensively. Will Rahul Easwar demand that all these representations be erased? Will he go as far as to destroy the Yakshi statue at Malampuzha or the sculptures in temples like Khajuraho? Will he force the Salabhanjikas at ancient temples to wear maxi dresses?”
She continued, “Is it Rahul Easwar’s prerogative to decide how women, including Honey, should shape their bodies and what they should wear? Doesn’t he understand the concept of individual freedom? One thing that must be understood is that friendships or professional relationships between men and women are natural. However close these relationships may be, if at any point a woman feels uncomfortable, she has every right to raise her voice or file a complaint if necessary. Honey did just that.”
Sreeya further remarked on the harsh treatment that followed Honey Rose’s actions. “But what followed was a wave of criticism targeting her attire and scenes from the movies she acted in, with offensive and misogynistic remarks being aired on television channels. In my opinion, this behavior reflects more misogyny than the alleged crime itself. If an actress performs in a rape scene or an intimate scene in a movie, does it give the public the right to assault or speak vulgarities against her in real life? What kind of primitive and misogynistic attitude is this?”
She also criticized the media for allowing such behavior. “Why don’t the hosts of these discussions remove such people from the debate? A word to the anchors conducting these media discussions: the political bickering and communal remarks in panel debates are intolerable and poison our society. On top of that, creating a platform for misogynistic remarks is unacceptable. Don’t allow offensive comments under the guise of freedom of expression.”
Sreeya concluded by addressing Rahul Easwar’s criticisms, pointing out, “Rahul Easwar, who doesn’t hesitate to criticize the highest judiciary in India, wouldn’t have second thoughts about criticizing Honey Rose either. Honey Rose is not beyond criticism, nor is she Mother Teresa. Dressing and speaking are matters of individual freedom. Words should not be excessive, and there should be dignity in both speech and attire.”
