Special Olympics Missouri athletes are stepping into the spotlight, not on the sports field, but on the fashion runway. The “Show Me MO” fashion show is set to take place Tuesday evening at the Hilton Garden Inn in Independence, offering these athletes a chance to express their individuality through style.
Mary-Ann Penrose, a member of the Special Olympics Missouri committee, highlighted the significance of this event, emphasizing the focus on personal expression.
“The athletes had a say in what they’re wearing, and that choice will be reflected in how they carry themselves on the runway,” Penrose explained. This personalized approach, she noted, is what makes the fashion show a truly unique experience.
The event will feature a variety of outfits provided by 10 local stores, allowing each athlete to select clothing that boosts their confidence and reflects their personality.
Kara Allen, the general manager of Sincerely Susan, one of the participating stores, shared her excitement in helping the athletes prepare for their big moment.
“It was a joy for us to help these girls feel truly beautiful,” Allen said. “Seeing their faces light up with excitement was a special experience.”
As the athletes take to the runway, the evening promises not only a celebration of fashion but also a powerful display of confidence, individuality, and joy.
