The Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) is set to host Ramp Up! 2024, a major fundraiser that will empower Sri Lankan female designers. The event, scheduled for November 12th at the Hilton Colombo, aims to highlight the exceptional talent of local fashion designers and strengthen their contributions to the industry.
Building on the success of Ramp Up! 2023, this year’s show will showcase over 100 collections from accomplished designers across Sri Lanka. The curated collections will highlight creativity and innovation, featuring well-known names like Gayathri Jayasinghe’s glamorous designs, and Amani Clothing by Amrita Lalinda Hapuarachchi’s smart casual wear. Other highlights include intricate Beeralu lace designs by M.B. Priyani from Thilina Lace, and striking black-and-white Batik pieces by Hely Batiks, led by H.M. Nilusha Swarnamali.
Lilis, directed by Subodha Prabhashini Thennakoon, will present a beautiful collection of natural-dye saris, while Saheli Creatives by Kanusha Nanayakkara promises a unique range of styles. Other participants include Fathima Marleen with her elegant abayas, Jezza Fashions by Jeeza Jameel’s opulent Old Money style, and The Wedding Flowers by Samitha Wijayasekara, showcasing a floral collection. Rebel by Ruchira Karunaratne will present sophisticated evening wear, and Absolute Basics by Christeen Silva will feature essential fashion staples.
The grand finale will feature actress Sangeetha Weeraratne and TV personality Danu Innasithamby, who will model creations by Lou Ching Wong. The show will be choreographed by Wong, who will also collaborate with the designers to present a groundbreaking vision of fashion that blends local roots with modern trends.
Organized by WCIC, Ramp Up! 2024 will support women’s entrepreneurship development programs aimed at empowering female entrepreneurs, especially those running micro and small businesses in the fashion sector. By attending, guests will play an important role in supporting women-led businesses and promoting diversity in the fashion industry.
The event is part of WCIC’s efforts to position itself as a leading business chamber while also celebrating the achievements of women in Sri Lanka. The fashion show will feature a diverse group of models, including WCIC members and professionals from fields like law, medicine, and entrepreneurship. This emphasis on inclusivity reflects the event’s commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion across all sectors.
“Fashion is more than just clothing; it’s an expression of identity and creativity,” said Nayana Karunaratne, Head of Event and the Capacity Building Pillar of WCIC. “By empowering female designers, we not only showcase their talents but also inspire innovation and inclusivity within the industry. Each collection is a reminder that diversity in fashion enriches our communities.”
