Nike is celebrating the challenges faced by marathon runners with a playful new ad that highlights the discomfort after a long race. The 30-second spot, part of the brand’s “Winning isn’t for everyone” campaign, shows people struggling to move the day after completing a marathon.
The ad, titled “Stairs,” features a man and woman having a tough time navigating a flight of stairs, a relatable struggle for anyone who has just run over 26 miles. The spot is set to the melancholic tune of Nazareth’s 1976 song “Love Hurts.” It also includes a brief message on a taxi driver’s radio, where the host congratulates “everyone who ran the marathon yesterday” and hopes they’re feeling okay.
This ad is aimed at runners and is part of Nike’s ongoing campaign, which previously featured ads titled ‘Morning,’ ‘Sunshine,’ and ‘Joy,’ released last month. These ads focus on the ups and downs that marathon runners face worldwide.
The series continues the theme of Nike’s major “Winning isn’t for everyone” campaign, launched earlier this year in support of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
