Tommy Hilfiger paid tribute to New York City and its iconic landmarks in his signature style during New York Fashion Week on Sunday night. The designer, known for his love of nautical themes and grand gestures, combined both elements in an unexpected way by hosting his show on a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry.
Guests aboard the ferry were treated to more than just a runway show. The night culminated in an energetic live performance by Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Raekwon from Staten Island’s Wu-Tang Clan, who moved through the audience while performing. The soundtrack, curated by Questlove, added to the atmosphere, with the celebrated musician serving as DJ, much like he did for Hilfiger’s February show at Grand Central’s Oyster Bar.
“This season, we’re inspired by nautical,” Hilfiger explained to The Associated Press before the event. “But it’s also preppy, collegiate, all-American, and modern. We wanted to show it on or near the water, and when we learned the Staten Island Ferry was available, it was the perfect fit.”
