Taiwan-Based Startup Portal to Bring Phygital Fashion to London Fashion Week SS25

Demos

Taiwan-based fashion startup Portal is set to make waves at London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025 on September 13th with a groundbreaking phygital experience. The exhibition, styled after a grocery store, will blend fashion and technology, showcasing the collaboration between Portal, Taiwan’s top garment manufacturer Makalot, and tech partner ViewSonic. Renowned designers Naya Rea, Ray Chu, PROJECTbyH., and AutoNarrative by Eve Lin will also participate, highlighting the intersection of cutting-edge 3D technology and fashion.

Blending Fashion and Technology

A recent YouGov survey found that 65% of British consumers either shop primarily online (37%) or split their shopping between online and offline (28%). In line with this trend, Eurostat reports that clothing was the most purchased item online in Europe in 2023. As online shopping continues to dominate, platforms like Portal
are seizing the opportunity to revolutionize digital fashion.

“Digital fashion is transforming the industry, offering new creative avenues for designers and brands while providing consumers with immersive, sustainable experiences,” said Alan Liu, Co-Founder of Portal. “This shift is largely driven by younger generations who crave personalized and engaging interactions. Some Western fashion houses have already embraced platforms like Portal, delivering hyper-realistic 3D garments for virtual spaces, which not only stand out but also deepen customer engagement. This digital fashion movement is not just a trend; it’s a fundamental shift in the industry. By embracing digital innovation, designers can push creative boundaries and offer consumers experiences they never thought possible. We are thrilled to demonstrate how Portal can empower brands through 3D innovation at London Fashion Week.”

Exhibition Highlights

Attendees will begin their journey in a “grocery store” before transitioning into an immersive, blacked-out room where ViewSonic’s advanced interactive displays and high-brightness projectors will showcase 3D, digitally generated art by the participating designers and Portal. This setup offers a dynamic experience that merges technology with creative fashion design.

Naya Rea: Known for her iconic designs, Naya Rea partners with Portal to bring her creations into the digital realm. Advanced technology will replicate the fabrics and motifs, projecting her unique world and showcasing intricate details.

Ray Chu: A proponent of diversity, body positivity, and sustainability, Ray Chu has been a London Fashion Week staple since 2022. His collaboration with Portal will offer a futuristic blend of technology and fashion.

PROJECTbyH.: This brand specializes in using natural materials, blending traditional craftsmanship with digital technology in its “RE-INCARNATION” collaboration with Portal, reimagining textiles for the modern era.

AutoNarrative by Eve Lin: Featuring “A Mother’s Guide to Love,” this short film will present 3D-rendered designs on a fantasy island, blending Taiwan’s cultural heritage with contemporary religious interpretations.

The exhibition will also feature Cloudy Ku, a Taiwan-born, Melbourne-based DJ, musician, and founder of the labels HER 他 and SPEED 速度. Ku is known for her unique blend of techno, trance, and experimental sounds, and her efforts to promote equality in the music community.
