The B.E.A S.H.E.R.O. Foundation will host its 8th Annual “I Am Radiant” Fashion Show to empower young people and raise awareness about human trafficking in Las Vegas.

Giner Land-van Buuren, the organization’s executive director, highlighted the severity of the issue: “Trafficking is increasing, and 90% of the trafficked youth in Las Vegas are local children. People often think this is a problem overseas, but it’s happening right here.”

More than 30 teens, both girls and boys, will participate in the fashion show. They have undergone a five-week training program that teaches them about the dangers of human trafficking and ways to protect themselves and others.

The training includes four three-hour sessions focusing on accountability, poise, self-acceptance, professional development, safety, and awareness.

Land-van Buuren explained, “Our goal is to raise awareness, educate teens about predatory behaviors, and help them become advocates for themselves and their peers. We also teach them to recognize warning signs through the training associated with the fashion show.”

All funds raised will support the Shield Sanctuary Program, which assists girls who have been abused, abandoned, or exploited. The program provides transitional housing, travel assistance, basic needs, and medical and counseling services to aid in their recovery.

The “I Am Radiant” Fashion Show will be held on Sunday, August 25, at 2 p.m. inside Macy’s at Fashion Show Las Vegas.
