As the spring season unfolds, the Twin Cities are gearing up for a vibrant lineup of fashion shows. While Fashion Week Minnesota takes a break this year, Black Fashion Week MN is returning for its eighth year, alongside a host of other events that promise to showcase the local and national fashion scene.
Black Fashion Week MN kicks off with “Streets Are Watchin,” a streetwear-centric event held at the stylish W Minneapolis. This show, featuring brands like No Excuses Brand, Diety, The Lowend, and Dios Giovanni, brings a fresh take on urban fashion. The event is set for Saturday, April 26, at 7 p.m., with tickets ranging from $20 to $50.
The grand finale of Black Fashion Week MN is the Minnesota Arts and Designers Exhibition (M.A.D.E.), which takes place on May 3 at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. This highly anticipated event will highlight works from designers such as Kiara Gomes, Jessica Khupe, Sonelle, Marques Armstrong, and Jordan Carpenter. The exhibition will be set against the backdrop of “Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys,” making for an unforgettable fusion of fashion and art. Tickets for M.A.D.E. start at $30, with the event scheduled for 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Native Nations Fashion Night will hold its runway show titled “I Am Water” on April 25, at 7 p.m. The event, hosted at the InterContinental St. Paul Riverfront, will focus on the significant role water plays in Native communities as a symbol of strength and resilience. Featured designers include Sage Davis, Lavender Doris, Shannon Gustafson, and Delina White. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore specialty designs and jewelry at the designers’ marketplace before the show. Tickets for this event start at $55.
For a more intimate fashion experience, local designer Joy Teiken will present her new collection “Wanderlust” on May 1 at the Minneapolis Club. Inspired by her love for travel and escape, Teiken’s collection will be accompanied by hats from Karen Morris Millinery, designs from Ramadhan Designs, and menswear by Russell Bourrienne. This event, which begins at 6:30 p.m., offers tickets starting at $75.
The second annual Winner’s Circle: The Kentucky Derby Party on May 3 will combine high fashion with horse racing excitement at the Four Seasons Hotel. Presented by Karen Morris and featuring creative director Grant Whittaker, this event will include a runway show, best hat and outfit competitions, a silent auction, and a viewing of the 151st Kentucky Derby. Tickets, starting at $105, include drinks, appetizers, and a swag bag. The event kicks off at 3 p.m.
Evolve: Midsummer Night’s Dream Fashion Show, typically a part of Fashion Week Minnesota, is making a stand-alone return this year. Hosted by The Fitting Room, this show will feature local designers and their capsule collections, inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The event will be held on May 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the fashion show scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at 3924 W. 50th St. Tickets for this event are available on the website.
Finally, the legacy of The Oval Room returns with a special anniversary runway production at the Hollywood Theater in Northeast Minneapolis on May 22. Presented by Sip ‘n Bloom and stylist Amy Seeman, this event reimagines the iconic Dayton’s space in a new light. The fashion show, starting at 5:30 p.m., invites attendees to enjoy floral arrangements and fashion design, with tickets starting at $75.
This season’s fashion events in the Twin Cities promise to highlight the rich and diverse fashion culture of the region while providing opportunities for designers and enthusiasts to come together and celebrate the art of style.
