Kendrick Lamar has been officially named the brand ambassador for Chanel’s eyewear line. According to The Business of Fashion, the partnership will kick off with a fresh campaign set to be unveiled later this week. Chanel’s eyewear campaigns in the past have included high-profile artists such as Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.
Lamar’s upcoming campaign will be photographed by renowned photographer Karim Sadli.
In a statement, Lamar expressed his admiration for the brand, saying, “Chanel has a timeless legacy and that is always something I can get behind. Since they don’t make clothes for men, I knew it would have to be glasses.”
Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel fashion, spoke about the importance of eyewear within the brand. “We strongly believe in eyewear and its potential,” he stated. “More than a simple fashion accessory, eyewear is part of the Chanel allure and is regularly seen on the runway. Its versatile style, playing with the house codes, brings a finishing touch to the silhouette. Through the ‘Chanel & moi’ program, we developed various services for this category to offer a perfect fit and the best experience to our clients.”
Lamar’s connection with Chanel dates back to the 2023 Met Gala, where he attended the Karl Lagerfeld exhibition. Along with his business partner Dave Free, Lamar also played a role in designing the set for Chanel’s haute couture show in January 2024.
This announcement comes as Kendrick Lamar is currently on The Grand National Tour with SZA, which kicked off on April 19 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The tour, a 39-concert run across North America and Europe, has already been making waves. Fans have shared their excitement over Kendrick performing his classic track “m.A.A.d city” over Anita Baker’s “Sweetest Love” and have even noted his playful reference to Drake’s diss track “Family Matters” during a concert skit.
As the tour unfolds, there’s no doubt that the buzz surrounding Kendrick Lamar will continue to grow. Meanwhile, SZA is also making waves outside of music, with the announcement of her new cosmetic line and pop-up stores launching throughout the tour, featuring the debut of her lip collection.
