Celebrating 25 years of shaping Indian fashion, Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI remains one of the country’s leading fashion platforms, known for fostering groundbreaking design and creative expression. NIF Global, an extension of the New York Institute of Fashion, Inc., highlighted its commitment to providing a global stage for its students by participating in the event. ‘The Runway’ serves as a testament to NIF Global’s legacy of nurturing young talent and offering them opportunities to shine in the fashion industry.
NIF Global’s focus on nurturing emerging talent was echoed by Tisha Khosla, a representative of the institution, who shared her thoughts on the showcase: “It’s truly incredible to witness the dedication and creativity of our students come to life on such a prestigious platform. At NIF Global, we provide a space for young designers to bring their visions to life, and ‘The Runway’ at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI embodies this commitment. Out of more than 250 student entries across our centers, only the most exceptional collections were selected and mentored for this showcase. Our students, including those from the fields of interior design, have collaborated to create a cohesive and immersive experience that speaks to the concept of Urban Nomads. We are grateful to Nushrratt Bharuccha for supporting our student designers and bringing their collections to life on this stage.”
The event unfolded as a celebration of bold ideas and craftsmanship, with student designers from across NIF Global’s campuses showcasing diverse and boundary-pushing collections. Each collection told a unique story through cutting-edge techniques and thoughtful design.
One standout was the “Stitched in Motion” collection by Kritika Kachhara and Shruti Kotecha from NIF Global Mumbai Ghatkopar. Drawing inspiration from the fluidity of urban nomads, the collection featured Sashiko embroidery and jute-khadi blends in neutral tones, prioritizing versatility and androgynous silhouettes for effortless self-expression.
Aanya Mutta and Krishna Thacker from NIF Global Gandhinagar presented “Arctic Voyage,” inspired by the resilience of the Arctic tern. Using cotton linen fabrics in black, white, and grey, accented by pops of red, the collection captured the grace of the bird in flight, with techniques like pleating and paneling adding depth and structure to the garments.
Another highlight was “Shift” by Bharti Goyal and Himanshi Garg from NIF Global Gurugram, which paid homage to the architectural brilliance of Zaha Hadid. The collection featured futuristic designs crafted from TPU, flannel, poly knit, and PVC fabrics, with neon thread tufting adding bold visual appeal.
“Nomadic By Nature” by Namrata Agrawal and Ankita Tiwari from NIF Global Indore embraced the concept of modern travelers. Using terry rayon lycra and iridescent PVC, the collection balanced free-flowing silhouettes with structured elements, all in earthy tones that evoked a sense of grounded sophistication.
Dhanishta Soni from NIF Global Jaipur presented “COSMO STERS,” a fusion of cosmopolitan hipster vibes and hippie culture. The collection used suede and flannel fabrics, offering reversible, adaptable silhouettes with weaving, block printing, and screen printing techniques, celebrating both individuality and unity.
The magic of ‘The Runway’ extended beyond fashion with interior design students creating immersive set designs that elevated the collections. Students like Kalash Bhuptani, Priyanka Sharma, Nisha Kumari, Nirma Suthar, and Priyanka Ghosh transformed the runway into a visual spectacle, blending fashion and space seamlessly.
