The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated a free fashion designing training program for women as part of its efforts to promote women’s empowerment. The program, launched by the social development department, aims to equip women with modern sewing skills and enhance their economic opportunities.
According to officials, the training is being conducted at the PCMC Stitching Center in Bhosari, beginning on March 17. Each batch consists of approximately 30 to 35 women from various age groups. The program provides hands-on training in operating modern sewing equipment, including high-speed machines, pico-fall machines, overlock machines, embroidery machines, steam irons, and electric cutting machines. Additionally, participants receive guidance in designing and stitching a range of garments such as designer dresses, blouses, skirts, frocks, one-piece dresses, lehengas, and embroidery work.
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that it serves as a major step toward financial independence for women. He emphasized that the combination of modern sewing equipment, digital marketing, professional guidance, and field visits ensures comprehensive support for women looking to establish themselves in the fashion design industry. Singh encouraged more women to take advantage of this training opportunity.
To enhance their ability to market and sell their products effectively, the program includes digital marketing training. Participants learn to utilize social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to advertise their stitched garments. Additionally, field visits are organized to familiarize them with the procurement of raw materials and potential marketplaces.
Assistant Commissioner of the Social Development Department, Tanaji Narale, explained that the program focuses on modern sewing techniques tailored to market demands rather than just traditional tailoring skills. By improving product quality and introducing contemporary fashion trends, the initiative aims to create better employment opportunities for women.
Additional Commissioner Pradip Jambhale Patil emphasized the role of skill-based training in women’s economic empowerment. He stated that by learning advanced stitching techniques, women can produce products that meet market demands, thereby increasing their income opportunities and fostering self-reliance through self-employment.
