The 080 Barcelona Fashion Week opened with a bold statement, celebrating confident and strong women through its runway collections. The first day of the event, held at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, featured a blend of veteran brands and emerging designers, showcasing fashion as a powerful tool for storytelling and identity-building.
The event began with an official inauguration by Miquel Sàmper, Minister of Business and Employment, who highlighted the catwalk’s role in internationalizing Barcelona’s fashion scene. This year’s edition was described as a “recognition” of the industry’s resilience, with organizers aiming to create a bridge between established brands and new talent, offering a global platform for emerging designers.
Simorra: Finding Beauty in Emptiness
Kicking off the runway was Simorra, one of the most loyal brands to the Barcelona catwalk. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Ma, which appreciates the beauty of empty spaces, the collection combined layered fabrics, transparency, and structured volumes. Materials such as embroidery, denim, organza, crinkled chiffon, and guipure took center stage, creating elegant and distinctive silhouettes that transformed each garment into a narrative piece.
Eiko Ai: A Fusion of Nature and Fashion
Designer Gloria Lladó, who previously worked at Givenchy, presented a collection true to her signature balance of comfort and sensuality. This season, under the theme Gardener Mist, Eiko Ai explored the relationship between nature and fashion. Floral and gradient prints, along with animal patterns, appeared on flowing, sheer garments. While black and white remained a classic foundation, the collection expanded its palette to reflect the diversity of nature, enhancing feminine beauty with effortless grace.
Escorpion: A Tribute in Knitwear
Escorpion, a historic Catalan brand founded in 1929, delivered a collection centered around knitwear with a dual identity. The first half featured dark, earthy tones—black and navy blue—crafted into soft, draped dresses reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. The second half paid homage to the late Vivienne Westwood with bold red hues and striking textures, celebrating a rebellious and daring spirit.
Lola Casademunt: Honoring a Legacy
The collection from Lola Casademunt by Maite marked the first after the passing of the brand’s founder, Maite Casademunt, in December. Now led by her daughter, the brand stays true to its roots while embracing evolution. “We like to dress women with confidence and strength,” said Casademunt, underlining the collection’s essence. Signature animal prints remained a highlight, this time paired with festive sequined designs and bold shades like lilac and green. A strong presence of black introduced a new level of elegance, making a subtle yet powerful statement.
The Label Edition: Rock-Inspired Elegance
Closing the day was The Label Edition, a brand led by two women dedicated to breaking fashion norms with effortless elegance. Their Rogue collection drew inspiration from rock icons, merging simplicity with rebellious sophistication. Tailored designs, asymmetrical silhouettes, and a palette of black, white, and navy blue formed the foundation, while contrasting colors added vibrancy and depth to the looks.
As the first day of 080 Barcelona Fashion Week concluded, it was clear that the collections did more than present new trends—they celebrated the strength, confidence, and legacy of women in fashion.
