Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI 2025, a highly anticipated fashion event, came to an exhilarating close on Sunday with a grand gala celebrating 25 years of Indian fashion. Held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, the week-long fashion extravaganza concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the evolution of the industry.
Over 30 celebrated designers took part in the gala, showcasing iconic pieces from their archival collections to honor the milestone journey of the fashion event. According to PTI, each designer selected two iconic ensembles from past collections, originally presented at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI over the last 25 years.
The evening ended on a poignant note as the fashion community paid tribute to the late designer Rohit Bal. A special standing ovation was held as footage from his final fashion show played out on the LED screen. Bal, who made a remarkable return to the runway in October 2024 after overcoming a health scare, passed away on November 1, 2024, at the age of 63. His contribution to the fashion world was celebrated as an unforgettable part of the Lakmé Fashion Week legacy.
Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan delivered an emotional address, reflecting on her journey with Lakmé. She shared, “Whether it was walking the ramp when I was size zero or Taimur in my belly, whether it was size 10 or 12, that never mattered. What mattered was my heart was on the stage with Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI, with each and every designer I’ve walked for.”
She added, “I’m back again with the Lakmé family. Hopefully, I will be back on the ramp with all my favourite designers wearing their outfits, maybe not as size zero but owning it completely.” Kareena also took the opportunity to acknowledge the unseen heroes behind the scenes who work tirelessly to bring these grand fashion shows to life.
The gala was hosted by American actor of Indian origin, Kal Penn.
The designers who showcased archival collections at the event included renowned names such as Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahiliani, Falguni Shane Peacock, Ritu Beri, Gauri & Nainika, Varun Bahl, Monisha Jaising, Ashish N Soni, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Raw Mango, Pankaj & Nidhi, Alpana & Neeraj, Namrata Joshipura, Shantnu Nikhil, Bhibhu Mohapatra, Rina Dhaka, Amit Aggarwal, Rahul Mishra, Anshu Arora, Bodice by Ruchika Sachdeva, Gaurav Gupta, Suneet Verma, Nalini Ramani, Anita Dongre, JJ Valaya, and Anamika Khanna, who opened the fashion week earlier this year.
