Actor and breast cancer survivor Chhavi Mittal took to Instagram to voice her frustration over the persistent trolling women face for their clothing choices, particularly in the gym. In a strongly-worded post, she questioned the double standards in society’s approach to body positivity. “Is body positivity just about normalising obesity? Is it about being comfortable wearing what you want and accepting yourself as you are, and getting praised for it? But the moment a fit woman wears clothes that make her feel comfortable in her skin, does it become a target for trolling?” she wrote.
Mittal highlighted a glaring inconsistency, pointing out that gym-goers—both men and women—are too focused on their workouts to pass judgment on others. “It’s the ones who DON’T gym who focus on these areas! Tell me, what does that speak about you?” she continued. She urged people to stop sexualising women for their clothing choices and to focus on their own fitness goals, adding, “If you have any…”
To gain further perspective, an expert was consulted on the issue of body positivity and why women continue to face criticism for wearing comfortable clothing. Delnna Rrajesh, a psychotherapist, healer, and relationship life coach, provided insight into the harmful nature of such trolling. She explained that women who own their bodies, dress for themselves, and confidently move through the world are often subjected to judgment, not because there is something wrong with them, but because they mirror an absence of self-acceptance in others.
Rrajesh agreed with Mittal’s statement, noting that trolling typically comes from individuals who have disconnected from their bodies or internalised shame over time. She emphasized that fitness isn’t about vanity, but rather about discipline, devotion, and self-respect.
