G-Star Makes Stylish Comeback in Australia, Bringing 2000s Nostalgia with a Modern Twist

by Demos

A beloved fashion label that once dominated Australian streetwear is back – and it’s like reconnecting with an old friend.

G-Star, the European brand that was everywhere in the 2000s and 2010s, is making a major comeback in Australia. Known for its iconic ‘Raw’ denim and streetwear appeal, G-Star was a favourite among everyone from hip-hop fans to fashion-forward tradies.

Now, the brand is returning with a refreshed, modern take on its signature structured denim, reigniting the nostalgia of those who remember when G-Star was a status symbol in Aussie fashion.

The revival has been met with excitement, with G-Star expanding across Australia and New Zealand through major retailers such as David Jones, The Iconic, Glue Store, and Culture Kings. G-Star also plans to open dedicated retail stores across Oceania in 2025, marking the next chapter of its stylish comeback.

Founded in the Netherlands in 1989, G-Star first made its mark in Australia in 1998. However, the brand faced financial difficulties and entered voluntary administration in May 2020, closing 57 stores and leaving over 200 employees affected. This was largely due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 recession.

But G-Star’s return is more than a nostalgic trip – it’s proof that high-quality, well-made denim is timeless. In recent years, the brand has been spotted on model and actress Victoria Jancke and even hosted a Paris Fashion Week afterparty with Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck in 2024. G-Star has also collaborated with cultural icons like Pharrell Williams, Snoop Dogg, Burna Boy, and Cara Delevingne, bringing a fresh, chic vibe to its designs.

G-Star’s signature raw denim jeans provide the perfect base for an effortlessly cool look, ideal for an off-duty model style. Pair them with a crisp white tank, oversized blazer, and chunky sneakers for a vibe that channels the streets of Copenhagen. The brand’s classic utility jackets make a bold statement when matched with baggy cargos and a sleek bodysuit. And denim-on-denim is officially back, so don’t hesitate to go full Canadian tuxedo with a structured G-Star jacket and matching jeans.

Helder Borges, Managing Director of Good Products & Co., commented: “For nearly 40 years, G-Star has redefined denim, pushing boundaries and challenging an industry rooted in tradition. We want to bring the rebellious spirit and bold vision for the future to the Oceania consumer.”
