Loewe is making waves in the fashion world with an exciting change at the helm! The renowned Spanish brand has announced that Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the founders and former co-creative directors of Proenza Schouler, will now take on the role of creative directors for Loewe. Starting April 7, 2025, they will guide the design direction across the brand’s womenswear, menswear, accessories, and leather goods collections. This fast-paced appointment marks a quicker transition compared to other recent shifts in the industry.
“We are incredibly honoured to join Loewe, a House whose values and mission align closely with our own,” McCollough and Hernandez expressed in a joint statement. “We look forward to working alongside its extraordinary teams and artisans, whose talent—under the exceptional creative direction of Jonathan Anderson—has shaped Loewe into the cultural force it is today. We extend our sincere gratitude to Bernard Arnault, Delphine Arnault, Sidney Toledano, and Pascale Lepoivre for entrusting us with this remarkable house’s next chapter.”
This announcement follows rumors that began swirling earlier in the year. In January, McCollough and Hernandez were reported to have met with LVMH and signed a contract related to Loewe, a development first shared by Puck’s “Line Sheet” newsletter. Shortly after, it was confirmed they would be stepping down from Proenza Schouler, a brand that has yet to name their successor, and that they chose not to present their Fall 2025 collection during New York Fashion Week. These events coincided with the opening of their new flagship boutique on Mercer Street.
McCollough and Hernandez are set to take over from Jonathan Anderson, who revealed his departure from Loewe last Monday after an influential 11-year tenure. Anderson is credited with bringing Loewe back into the limelight, cementing its position as one of the most prominent labels in the fashion world. His departure, teased a week before the announcement, had been speculated about since the fall of 2024.
While the exact vision McCollough and Hernandez will bring to Loewe remains to be seen, their pedigree in the fashion industry is undeniable. The duo met while attending Parsons School of Design, and in 2002, they founded Proenza Schouler, quickly gaining recognition. They won the Swarovski Award for Ready-to-Wear at the CFDA Awards in 2003, followed by the first-ever CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2004. Their accolades include three CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year awards in 2007, 2011, and 2013, as well as Accessory Designer of the Year in 2009. Additional honors include Designer of the Year at the ACE Awards (2014) and Fashion Star Award from Fashion Group International (2015).
Much like Anderson’s work at Loewe, McCollough and Hernandez have made their mark with successful accessory lines, including the signature PS1 handbag, Ruched tote, and Glove boots. They also share a collaborative spirit, having worked with brands like Birkenstock, Vans, Sorel, Merit, Mercedes-Benz, and Lancôme.
Congratulations to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez as they embark on this exciting new chapter at Loewe!
