Embroidery, traditionally used to decorate fabrics with needles and threads, has long been associated with women’s fashion collections. However, at the Ramadan Runway 2025, held on March 23 at the Kota Kasablanka Mall in South Jakarta, embroidery made a strong statement in the world of men’s Muslim clothing. The third day of the event highlighted this emerging trend, showcasing a diverse collection of Men’s Modest Wear from 12 talented designers.
The designers presented their creative takes on men’s fashion, pushing the boundaries of traditional attire. The collections featured an array of materials, silhouettes, and color combinations, making a bold statement beyond the typical koko shirts and pants. Outerwear, blazers, jackets, and scarves, some adorned with intricate embroidery, added a fresh dynamic to the offerings.
The collections also included oversized cuts and asymmetric accents, adding further variety to the styles. In terms of color, the collections were diverse, with earthy tones, metallic hues, neutral shades, and subtle nude tones, all inspired by the “Night in Egypt” theme.
Designer and brand owner Abeey, Ariy Arka, shared his thoughts on the event, saying, “Ramadan Runway 2025 dedicated a special slot on the third day for male Muslim clothing. The show revealed that in 2025, the embroidery trend is making a significant mark in male Muslim fashion, with earth tones dominating the collections in line with the ‘Night in Egypt’ theme.”
Arka also emphasized the increasing diversity in men’s Muslim fashion, noting how the public is now more excited than ever about their clothing choices, especially during Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr. “Interestingly, when fashion shows feature a variety of Muslim men’s clothing, the enthusiasm from the visitors is overwhelming, as men are becoming more conscious of their appearance,” he remarked.
Over the years, there has been a significant surge in the sales of men’s Muslim clothing, with an increasing number of designers focusing on this segment. Arka believes the potential for growth in this market is undeniable.
Another designer showcasing their collection at the event was Leny Rafael. The fashion show also featured notable figures such as Eva Gonzales, the wife of Christian Gonzales, and their son Vanessa Gonzales, who served as muses for Rafael’s design. Eva Gonzales shared her thoughts on the evolving Muslim men’s fashion, stating that it has become more versatile, neat, and fashionable. She even mentioned that her husband and son would be wearing Leny Rafael’s designs during the upcoming Lebaran celebrations.
“Later, our family will wear Leny Rafael’s design at the event in Thailand, including my husband and son. It’s really cool, see,” Eva Gonzales said.
The Ramadan Runway 2025 offers a comprehensive experience for visitors, running from March 19 to April 13, 2025. In addition to the fashion shows, the event includes workshops, designer and icon competitions, funding opportunities, Ramadan carnivals, pop-up markets, and exhibitions, making it a multifaceted celebration of Muslim fashion and culture.
