Forever 21, one of the United States’ most recognizable clothing brands, is laying off nearly 700 workers across California and Pennsylvania and shutting down its headquarters in California.
The company made the announcement through WARN notices filed in both states over the past week.
Several Forever 21 locations in California will close, including stores in Orange, Riverside, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Montclair, Santa Ana, Lakewood, and Cerritos.
Retail Dive reports that Forever 21’s Los Angeles headquarters, employing more than 350 workers, will also be closed.
A representative from Catalyst Brands, the parent company of Forever 21, stated that the company “continues to explore strategic options while also looking at ways to reduce costs across our operations and optimize our store footprint.”
In preparation for a potential second bankruptcy filing, liquidation sales began last month, as the company seeks a buyer. If no suitable buyer is found, Forever 21 plans to liquidate its entire 350-store chain.
At its peak, Forever 21 operated over 800 locations worldwide.
