It’s not often you come across clothing that’s as beneficial for your body as it is stylish. However, the latest collection from David Gandy Wellwear, Wellwear Restore, is here to change that. Each garment is crafted from fabric infused with minerals that transform body heat into far infrared light (FIR). These rays are then reflected back onto the body, improving blood circulation and accelerating the muscle recovery process.
Naturally, some skepticism may arise with claims like these. However, the science behind it is solid. Bioceramic materials, which have been used in the medical field for about 50 years—primarily in prosthetics like dental implants and artificial joints—are now being integrated into fibers. Thanks to advancements in nanoparticle technology, these materials can now be woven into fabrics. While this means Wellwear Restore products are a cotton/polyester blend rather than the 100% cotton or wool typically found in high-end gear, the benefits more than make up for the trade-off.
So, how did a world-renowned model come to incorporate this technology into his workout wear designs? The answer, unsurprisingly, stems from David Gandy’s own rigorous training routine. “A few years ago, I injured myself, suffering from what people call ‘bench press shoulder’,” Gandy shares with Robb Report via email. “I explored alternative treatments and found infrared therapy. It was non-invasive and, alongside physiotherapy, it provided fast relief from the pain and stiffness I was dealing with.”
The initial launch of the Restore collection is a small selection within the broader David Gandy Wellwear line, focusing on loungewear. The range includes a padded zip-front hoodie for added warmth, and options like a hooded sweater or a funnel-neck half-zip for those who prefer a more stylish way to unwind at home. Prices vary, with a crewneck sweatshirt priced at $104, and a padded hoodie at $284. You can also purchase sets of tops and bottoms for $303.
Gandy adds, “Personally, I wear these pieces after I work out. People often forget that recovery is just as crucial as training and nutrition when it comes to overall wellness. The quicker your muscles recover, the more intense your training can be.” While wearing these clothes may not guarantee you’ll look like David Gandy post-workout, they could help you recover quickly enough to motivate you to hit the gym again sooner.
