Gucci’s New Era Unveiled in Deep Green at Milan Fashion Week

by Demos

The iconic deep red of Gucci is officially a thing of the past, making way for a bold new color: dark Gucci green.

On the opening day of Milan Fashion Week, the brand marked its creative shift by transforming the showroom with a rich green carpet and pleated drapery. This color change from red to green—both central to the Gucci stripe logo—served as a clear break from the previous era under creative director Sabato De Sarno, whose departure after just two years marked the beginning of this new chapter.

With only two and a half weeks to put together a fresh collection after De Sarno’s sudden exit, the design team had a tight deadline to work with. In contrast, the transition from Alessandro Michele in 2015 came with even less time—just five days to prepare for the runway.

Michele’s tenure was known for its eccentric style, featuring eclectic pieces like pussy bows and vintage-inspired outfits. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what signals Gucci’s new direction from this runway, but many looks echoed past Gucci eras.

The collection featured boxy minidresses, reminiscent of the 1960s, paired with silk scarves around the head—sometimes worn over baseball caps. Sleek silk dresses with lace details evoked the 1990s. Deconstructed pussy-bow blouses, a nod to the Michele era, flowed gracefully. Straight skirts with high slits and slim trousers with split hems made appearances, recalling more recent designs.

The overall aesthetic was lush, with luxurious fabrics like faux fur, satin, and mother-of-pearl leather setting a rich tone throughout.

Notable front-row guests included Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jessica Chastain, Parker Posey, and Dev Patel.

The runway showcased boxy suit jackets with flat pockets, evoking a 1960s silhouette for women, and slightly oversized double-blazer looks for men. Other standout items included overcoats with short sleeves, bondage-style leather gloves, faux fur coats, and long flowing bows that doubled as scarves.
