Rodd and Gunn, a menswear brand from New Zealand with locations in Manhattan and Mayfair, is preparing to open a new store in one of York’s most iconic streets.
The store will be located at 18-20 Stonegate, the former site of the Kingdom of Sweets, which has remained vacant since the confectionery shop closed. Prior to that, the building housed Jack Wills, which operated from 2009 to 2020.
Rodd and Gunn’s UK portfolio includes stores in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Winchester, and Bath, with the latter three opening last year. Their flagship UK store is located on Conduit Street in London.
As reported previously by The Press, an application for listed building consent for the Stonegate location was submitted to the City of York Council in August of last year, though the tenant was not initially disclosed.
The updated planning documents now submitted by Rodd and Gunn reveal additional plans, including the enlargement of the existing front store opening. The documents also mention that listed building consent has been granted for the installation of changing cubicles on the rear ground floor for the store. Furthermore, the shop front will be painted white.
In a separate planning application for signage, plans to display hanging panels, logos, and signs above the main entrance doors and windows were also included.
