As her husband’s inauguration approaches, Melania Trump is reportedly receiving a surge of interest from top fashion designers eager to dress the incoming First Lady.
According to the Daily Mail, major fashion houses have flooded Melania with requests, hoping to style her for the event. The world’s eyes will be on her as she stands by her husband after a challenging year.
When Donald Trump was sworn in back in 2017, Melania was reportedly snubbed by many high-profile designers due to concerns over associating with her husband’s controversial politics. French designer Sophie Theallet even penned an open letter urging other designers to avoid dressing the future First Lady, citing the rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia from his campaign.
At the time, Melania wore a powder blue cashmere dress and bolero by American designer Ralph Lauren for the inauguration. However, this time around, she has a wide array of options, with European couture giants like Versace and Christian Dior among those eager to dress her.
The shift in designer interest likely stems from Melania’s recent efforts to carve out her own identity, separate from her husband. Her memoir, released last year, and her outspoken stance against certain political issues, such as abortion bans, have helped shape her independent path. Additionally, Melania’s new Amazon documentary, which chronicles her journey back to the White House, is set for release later this year.
Fashion enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting to see what Melania wears on inauguration day, as it promises to be a historic moment in the world of fashion. There is also speculation that she may choose to support American designers as part of her husband’s “Make America Great Again” agenda.
