Charli XCX Encourages Brands to Donate Clothing to LA Wildfire Victims

by Demos

Charli XCX has called on brands sending her clothing to instead donate these items to those impacted by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

The pop singer, who gained widespread recognition last year with the release of her album Brat, followed by a successful arena tour and campaigns with brands like H&M, Skims, Acne Studios, and Converse, is using her platform to support those affected by the ongoing crisis.

The wildfires, which began on January 7, have claimed 16 lives, forced nearly 180,000 residents to evacuate, and caused extensive damage to over 13,400 structures. In response to this disaster, Charli XCX shared her thoughts on Instagram, encouraging brands to redirect their gifts of clothing to those in need.

“As a public figure, I am often sent clothes and other items by brands wanting to gift me something,” Charli wrote on her Instagram Stories. “While it’s very kind and sweet, I encourage brands to give to people who truly need it.”

She continued, urging followers to donate to those affected by the fires, saying, “Please donate to those who have been tragically affected by these horrific LA fires.”

In a follow-up post, Charli shared details of a clothing drive organized by stylist Lana Jay Lackey, where she would be donating. She again encouraged brands to contribute unworn items to help families who have lost their homes.

The wildfires have impacted several public figures, with Paris Hilton sharing that she watched her home burn on television. Other high-profile individuals, including James Woods, Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes, and Mark Hamill, have also been affected by the fires.

Milo Ventimiglia, star of Heroes, became emotional during a live interview as he spoke about watching his house burn down. A fundraiser has been launched for Zachary Cole Smith of DIIV, whose home was also destroyed in the blaze. Mel Gibson revealed that his house burned down while he was recording his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience.

The fires have also devastated several music recording spaces, including Bob Clearmountain’s Mix This! studio in Pacific Palisades.

A benefit concert, FireAid, will take place at LA’s Intuit Dome on January 30, with proceeds going toward the rebuild program and supporting displaced families. The concert lineup has yet to be announced.
