The 2024 Paris Olympics began last Friday with a unique opening ceremony that captured global attention.
At the Jamaica Pegasus hotel, festivities started with a fashion parade by SAINT International, showcasing designs from top local fashion houses. The event, attended by media, fashion industry figures, and French Embassy representatives, featured models in creations by Heather Laine and Kadian Nicely, complemented by fascinators from Karl Brown. After enjoying sangria and the stylish display, guests moved to the lobby to watch the Olympics opening ceremony.
Brian Sang, the general manager of Jamaica Pegasus, expressed his goal to revive the hotel’s vibrant atmosphere. Throughout the games, the hotel invites everyone to cheer for Team Jamaica in an Olympic Village setup with a large screen. Sang emphasized that the fashion parade and subsequent reception, featuring Paris-inspired treats and pastries named after Jamaican athletes, aim to foster friendship and celebration, echoing Olympic values.
Sang remarked, “Starting the Olympics with a fashion show leading into the opening ceremony sets the tone. Throughout the Olympics, we’ll have the lobby screen showing games, along with a special Olympic menu.”
SAINT founder Deiwght Peters highlighted the natural synergy between fashion, sports, and business. Peters recalled how Sang’s idea of integrating the fashion parade with the opening ceremony resonated with him, inspired by recent fashion events in Paris that combined sports history with French fashion legacy. The event showcased 50 looks blending French style with Jamaican spirit, including a track-inspired runway by SAINT’s male models, captivating the audience with its thematic fusion.
Peters commented, “It’s a fitting celebration of Jamaica’s Olympic achievements. We anticipated success and wanted to incorporate a Jamaican touch. Seeing the energy and creativity today reassured me it was a fantastic partnership.”
The event at Jamaica Pegasus exemplified a blend of cultural celebration and sporting spirit, encapsulating the essence of the Paris Olympics’ opening festivities.
