ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – Pet owners in Odessa had the opportunity to showcase their furry friends in the first-ever Pet Fashion Show, hosted by Power Team Properties and the City of Odessa. The event, held to celebrate pets and bring the community together, featured a variety of activities, including food trucks, music, entertainment, and vendors.
Event Highlights
The event was not only a fashion extravaganza for pets but also served as an adoption drive, offering attendees the chance to adopt pets in need of homes. The pet fashion show itself was a highlight, with participants dressing their dogs in a range of creative costumes, from superhero outfits to western cowboy attire, complete with dresses and wigs.
Sarah Dominguez, a participant, expressed her excitement, saying, “They never did anything like this. I was excited because they are crazy.” She looked forward to the possibility of her pets winning a trophy.
Awards and Recognition
The judges awarded the titles of Mr. and Mrs. Pet Paw of the Year, complete with crowns and special certificates. Dominguez added, “It would be pretty cool if I never won anything so if they win something it would be cool.”
Community Engagement
The event provided a unique opportunity for pet owners to engage in fun activities with their pets while socializing them and keeping them active. Jose Valenzuela, another participant, noted the importance of such events: “We used to do it a lot more. I feel like there are not too many events for these pets anymore, but we used to try to do it. My dog is getting old from being out here in this heat. It’s fun.”
Organizers’ Perspective
One of the event organizers, a pet store owner with twelve years of experience hosting pet fashion shows, emphasized the significance of the event for the community. Valenzuela echoed this sentiment, stating, “It is important to the community. I mean there are not many things to do in Odessa and something like this helps out the community.”
Future Plans
Looking ahead, the organizers plan to expand the pet fashion show across the Permian Basin, including Monahans, Andrews, and Midland. Amber Barrientes, Branch Manager at Service First Mortgage, shared their ambitions: “Next year we are hoping to have two shows. This year we only have one, but we are hoping to grow it to two shows next year and it will include every surrounding community in the Permian Basin.”
The 2024 Pet Fashion Show in Odessa successfully brought pet owners and the community together, creating a fun and engaging event that highlighted the bond between pets and their owners. With plans to expand, the future looks bright for this delightful community tradition.
