As summer reaches its peak, the fashion world turns its attention to September’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW). The spring 2025 schedule may be compact, but it’s filled with exciting surprises.
Opening Day Highlights
NYFW will officially begin on Friday, September 6th at 1pm with Area, celebrating its 10th anniversary. The opening day is packed with notable shows, including Collina Strada and Willy Chavarria. Additionally, Belgian designer Pieter Mulier will present an off-calendar show, opting out of Alaïa’s traditional Paris couture season slot. Mulier, who has a history in New York from his time with Raf Simons at Calvin Klein 205W39NYC, expressed his connection to the city: “New York has a very special significance to me. It’s the city of resilience. And resilience is the feeding ground for creativity. My time in New York has not only shaped my artistic vision but has become an integral part of who I am. It’s where Alaïa‘s story intersects with the heartbeat of the world. New York isn’t just a destination; it’s a homecoming, a celebration of the past, present, and future of Alaïa.”
European Brands Join the Lineup
Several European brands are making their way to New York this season. Ib Kamara will showcase his second collection as Off-White’s creative director on Sunday, September 8 at noon. Ronald van der Kemp will present his fall 2024 couture collection on Wednesday, September 11 at 11am. Following a show in Paris, Stockholm-based designers Elin Kling and Karl Lindman of Toteme will hold their presentation on Tuesday, September 10 at 10am. Additionally, Mexican brand Campillo, led by LVMH Prize finalist Patricio Campillo, will make its NYFW debut on Saturday, September 7 at 9am.
Returning Favorites and Debuts
Who Decides War returns to the official schedule on Saturday, September 7 at 1pm, along with Rio Sport, Rio Uribe’s newly-named brand, showing on Wednesday, September 11 at 1pm. This year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists will have a strong presence, with Kate Barton, Grace Ling, Jane Wade, and Wiederhoeft returning, and Taylor Thompson, Sebastien Ami, and Presley Oldham making their debuts. Last year’s CVFF winner, Melitta Baumeister, will close NYFW with her first-ever fashion show on September 11 at 5pm.
Notable Absences
Some big names are missing from this season’s schedule, including Altuzarra, Helmut Lang, Gabriela Hearst, Fforme, Proenza Schouler, and Ralph Lauren. However, Proenza Schouler will hold an intimate presentation on Wednesday, September 4, and Ralph Lauren will host a show in the Hamptons on Thursday, September 5, ahead of the official week.
