Trinidadian fashion and Carnival designer Stefan Justin Sealy made his debut at Cayman Fashion Week, where he presented 16 pieces from his eponymous brand from April 10 to 13. The collection included eight male and eight female pieces from Sealy’s Resort Wear collection, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Sealy’s journey to Cayman Fashion Week is a notable one, following his successful appearance on the runway at Milan Fashion Week in September 2023, where his work was featured at Flying Solo. This year, his participation in the Cayman event was not only his first appearance at the prestigious fashion gathering but also his first foray into designing resort wear. Moreover, it was his debut collection for women, as he has primarily been known for his men’s designs.
International model Anita Lain showcased Sealy’s resort wear pieces on the Cayman runway, adding a global touch to the event. Reflecting on the significance of the moment, Sealy expressed immense pride in representing Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the broader Caribbean aesthetic on an international stage. “This moment means everything – my first time doing resort wear, my first time designing for women at this scale, and my first visit to the Cayman Islands. There’s something really special about all of that aligning right here,” he shared.
Sealy sees his participation in Cayman Fashion Week as a pivotal step toward expanding his reach and solidifying his position as a Caribbean designer with global ambitions. He views the event as a launchpad for his broader goals, particularly aiming to showcase his work at New York Fashion Week in September.
Among other notable participants at the event was Haitian-born designer Prajje Oscar, a finalist from Project Runway season 19. Sealy hopes that his experience at Cayman Fashion Week will lead to more opportunities and increase his visibility on the international fashion circuit.
“I want to fly the Trinidad flag high as I travel the world sharing my fashion perspective. This is just the start – I’m building a global fashion powerhouse, piece by piece,” Sealy concluded, reflecting his commitment to growing his brand beyond the Caribbean and onto the global stage.
