Argand Partners Acquires Iconic Dancewear Brand Capezio

Capezio, the legendary dancewear brand founded in 1887, has officially been acquired by the New York-based private equity firm Argand Partners, LP. The acquisition includes Ballet Makers Inc., the parent company of Capezio.

In a statement, Capezio CEO Michael Terlizzi expressed his excitement about the acquisition: “Argand and its advisors have built a strong relationship with our management team over several months, and we are delighted to formalize their partnership to build off of nearly 140 years of commitment to the dance community. The Argand team brings a complimentary skillset to our business, and our team is excited to be part of the Argand portfolio.”

Capezio has remained a family-owned company since its founding, with the Terlizzi and Giacoio families at the helm. This tradition will continue under Argand’s ownership, with key family members, including Michael Terlizzi, remaining involved in the Totowa, New Jersey-based company. The brand aims to preserve its heritage and craftsmanship while evolving its offerings. Under new ownership, Capezio plans to introduce updated product lines, new brand collaborations, and partnerships, as well as increase engagement with global dance communities.

Argand partner Joyce Schnoedl shared her enthusiasm about the acquisition: “We are delighted to invest in this iconic brand that has, since its inception, helped instill a love of dance and appreciation of the art among dancers across the world. As a dancer myself and a consumer of the Capezio brand for several decades, I have a deep personal connection and commitment to the company.
