Emily Farrell Tees Off a Fashion Revolution in Women’s Golf with Abendroth Golf

by Demos

Emily Farrell’s journey in golf began in her Minnesota childhood, where she could easily bike to Somerset Country Club and spend hours immersed in the game. She was often the only girl in junior golf, but that didn’t stop her. At the course, she formed an unexpected bond with Ruth, a woman in her seventies who became both a friend and mentor. Their connection transcended age, built on a shared love for golf. Ruth’s influence left such a mark that years later, Farrell named one of her company’s signature pants after her.

Farrell’s lifelong passion for golf took her through high school competition in the Twin Cities and eventually to Methodist University’s PGA Golf Management Program. There, she combined her love of the sport with business training, completing internships that helped her earn her PGA of America Membership. After college, Farrell joined Titleist in Massachusetts, working in advertising and brand management, where she developed the foundational skills that would later support her entrepreneurial journey.

Though successful at Titleist, Farrell began to miss the personal connections that came from being on the course. Seeking that sense of community again, she reached out to The Country Club in Boston and returned to the course as an assistant. While working in the golf shop, she noticed a gap in the market: women’s golf clothing lacked options that were functional, stylish, and professional. The absence of versatile and attractive golf wear inspired her to take matters into her own hands.

She soon moved back to Minnesota and began working at White Bear Yacht Club, spending much of her time teaching on the lesson tee. Still dissatisfied with the clothing choices available, she found herself shopping at fashion retailers like J. Crew and Banana Republic instead of traditional golf brands. Wanting apparel that felt more like an extension of herself and less like a uniform, Farrell began sketching her own ideas. She envisioned a high-waisted, tailored jogger that worked just as well off the course as it did on it.

That vision became reality with the Peggy Pant, Abendroth Golf’s debut product named after Farrell’s sister, whose sense of style greatly inspired the design. The Peggy Pant features a sleek woven material, a polished appearance, and deep, functional pockets that depart from the impractically shallow pockets found in most women’s pants. Farrell designed the joggers to feel modern and elegant, fitting for everything from a boardroom meeting to a post-work round of golf.

Later, she introduced the Ruth Pant, a stylish response to the traditionally unflattering khaki golf pants. These pants feature a heavier yet soft fabric, cropped in length with a legging-inspired fit. Both the Peggy and Ruth pants include their namesakes’ signatures on the tags—a heartfelt tribute to the women who helped shape Farrell’s life and vision. Even the name of the brand, Abendroth Golf, is a personal homage; it’s Farrell’s middle name and the surname of her grandmother Polly, whose spirit of confidence and style the brand seeks to embody.

With Abendroth Golf, Farrell has committed full-time to reshaping the way women experience golf fashion. The brand has grown beyond pants to include hoodies, accessories, and soon, a range of stylish tops and outerwear made from Italian fabrics in Minneapolis. One upcoming addition Farrell is particularly excited about is a button-up polo, a chic and versatile piece that reflects the brand’s ethos of comfort and sophistication.

Farrell’s mission with Abendroth goes beyond fashion. She wants to empower more girls and women to feel confident and welcome in the golf community. She understands that golf is not just a sport but a place to forge meaningful relationships, much like the one she had with Ruth. Her brand offers more than clothes; it offers women the opportunity to feel seen and included on the course.

Today, Farrell stands as a leader and advocate in women’s golf. Her story has come full circle, from being mentored by Ruth to now mentoring others—both through her presence and her products. Through Abendroth Golf, she is not only making stylish waves in the industry but also creating a more inviting space for the next generation of female golfers.
