The impact of Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) continues to ripple throughout the global fashion industry, as its emphasis on sustainability inspires new collaborations. Following a recent partnership with the British Fashion Council to implement sustainable practices in London, CPHFW has now joined forces with Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW) to advance eco-conscious reform across the Nordic and Benelux fashion sectors.
AFW has officially announced its partnership with CPHFW, aiming “to accelerate the industry’s sustainability actions across the Nordic and Benelux fashion markets.” As part of this initiative, AFW will adopt and integrate CPHFW’s Sustainability Requirements framework into its official show schedule.
The implementation begins with a one-year pilot phase, during which AFW will incorporate the Minimum Standards outlined by CPHFW into its existing brand admission criteria. The full rollout of these standards is set for September 2026, marking a definitive commitment toward sustainable change.
This year’s Amsterdam Fashion Week, commencing 30 August, will see approximately 30 participating brands evaluated under the new Sustainability Requirements. These assessments will ensure that brands align with evolving ethical and environmental expectations within the industry.
AFW CEO Danie Bles emphasized the importance of this move, stating, “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Sustainability isn’t optional — it’s the future of fashion, and we’re shaping it today. With this in mind, we are incredibly proud to announce our partnership with CPHFW. By adhering to the Sustainability Requirements, we join forces with our fellow fashion weeks to support designers in making real, measurable progress in their sustainability efforts.”
Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week, echoed these sentiments: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Amsterdam Fashion Week so shortly after joining forces with the British Fashion Council. With this new collaboration, we further establish the Sustainability Requirements within Europe and work even more closely on shared language and common objectives. This partnership not only fosters much-needed industry alignment but underpins the unique role fashion plays in driving positive change within the industry.”
The adoption of the Copenhagen framework by Amsterdam Fashion Week follows similar implementations at Oslo Runway, the Norwegian Fashion Hub, and Berlin Fashion Week, demonstrating growing European consensus on the urgency of sustainability in fashion.
With Amsterdam now on board, the Sustainability Requirements are quickly becoming a continental standard, aimed at redefining not just how fashion looks, but how it respects the planet and its people.
