The British Fashion Council (BFC) has officially canceled the June edition of London Fashion Week (LFW), citing a strategic shift towards supporting greater commercial opportunities for British designers. The announcement reflects the council’s response to the evolving demands of the global fashion industry and the reduced participation in the June fashion schedule.
The June edition of LFW traditionally emphasized menswear. When it was launched in 2012, it was branded as “London Collections: Men.” In 2024, the name was updated to include both menswear and womenswear to reflect a broader inclusivity. However, over time, participation in the June schedule steadily declined, prompting the BFC to reconsider its viability and relevance.
This move follows a similar decision earlier in the year, when the BFC canceled its January menswear event. The council emphasized that the shift in strategy is aimed at prioritizing initiatives that could better serve British designers from a commercial standpoint.
In place of the canceled June event, the BFC will redirect its efforts towards other key business-focused initiatives. One such initiative includes the London Show Rooms in Paris, scheduled for June 26 to July 1, 2025. These showrooms will now serve as a platform to showcase British menswear collections, compensating for the canceled fashion week segment.
Caroline Rush, the outgoing Chief Executive of the BFC, shared the final confirmation of the decision with British Vogue. She stated,
“By scaling back to more targeted programmes this June in London and Paris, we aim to create strong foundations to amplify the message of our brilliant British menswear businesses. We recognise the challenges the sector faces both in the UK and globally and remain committed to amplifying the voices of British menswear designers as they navigate an ever-changing fashion landscape. We will continue to adapt and find ways to platform our brilliant British menswear business.”
Another BFC spokesperson also spoke to FashionUnited, elaborating on the organization’s updated direction:
“This June, our focus will be on championing British menswear and strengthening its presence both locally and internationally. Taking a digital-first approach, we will collaborate with buyers and media partners and leverage our own channels to spotlight the evolving story of British menswear, introducing and promoting designers to new audiences. This will be woven into our existing content streams, highlighting British designers presenting in other markets and exploring the evolution of menswear.”
Despite the cancellation of the London Fashion Week June edition, the BFC reaffirms its ongoing commitment to promoting and supporting the British fashion industry. By pivoting towards initiatives with greater commercial potential, the council hopes to revitalize the UK’s fashion scene and offer stronger platforms for British designers, particularly those in the menswear sector.
