Bangladeshi Luxury Fashion Takes Center Stage at Paris Fashion Week

by Demos

For decades, Bangladesh has been known for its thriving garment industry, supplying ready-made apparel to global brands. However, despite its rich heritage, unique style, and century-old craftsmanship in intricate embellishments, high-end Bangladeshi fashion has often remained overlooked on the global stage. Now, as designers worldwide redefine contemporary luxury with comfort, quality, and artistry, Bangladeshi talent is breaking barriers—bringing their innovation and versatility to international platforms.

Recently, Bangladeshi designer Mehruz Munir’s collection, Solaris, took the spotlight at Paris Fashion Week 2025, dazzling the audience on March 8. Munir’s vision for Solaris was to showcase the luxurious side of Bangladeshi fashion while challenging the perception that high-end garments are impractical.

The collection featured 15 men’s ensembles, including tailored suits, parkas, tuxedos, and overcoats, each exuding a refined and contemporary aesthetic. For women, Munir presented five breathtaking gowns inspired by celestial elements, adorned with sunburst and solar flare motifs. The silhouettes seamlessly blended structure with fluidity, making a striking statement in haute couture.

Handcrafted embellishments were at the heart of the collection, a testament to Bangladesh’s craftsmanship. “Our artistry and luxury deserve global recognition,” Munir emphasized. The mesmerizing transition of colors—from white to gold, green, and black—aligned perfectly with the collection’s theme, A Gilded Journey from Dusk to Dawn.

The showcase was held at the Chapelle Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc, an iconic venue that amplified the significance of this moment for Bangladesh’s fashion industry. Reflecting on his experience, Munir shared, “Representing my country at one of the world’s biggest fashion platforms was both emotional and empowering.” As the creative director of the renowned fashion house Zurhem, he sees this achievement as a step toward changing the global perception of Bangladeshi fashion.

“The world views Bangladesh through the lens of fast fashion and mass production,” Munir stated. “It’s time to redefine that narrative and establish our place in the luxury fashion industry.”

Organized by the House of Vendôme Paris, the showcase was a dream come true for Munir, who was inspired by the overwhelming positive response. “People kept telling me that we should have a permanent presence in Paris. That encouragement means everything,” he said.

Since 2015, Munir has led Zurhem with a focus on innovative menswear. However, he acknowledges that navigating the industry without a strong support system can be challenging. “In other countries, designers function as a fraternity, supporting each other. Establishing such a system could greatly benefit our fashion scene,” he noted.

Paris Fashion Week is a global trendsetter, shaping fashion for seasons ahead. For a Bangladeshi designer to be featured on this prestigious platform sends an inspiring message to aspiring designers back home. Munir’s advice to them? “Dream big! I’ve lost count of how many people doubted my vision, but I kept pushing forward.”

He stresses that quality is non-negotiable—materials, craftsmanship, and fit must be perfected. He also advises staying updated with international trends and leveraging social media for visibility. “If your work is strong, it will get noticed. That’s exactly how it happened for me,” he shared.

So, what’s next for Munir? His mission is clear: “I want to take our homegrown Bangladeshi fashion to an even bigger stage. Whether in Paris, London, New York, or Milan—our designs deserve global recognition.”
